Overlooking Lake Michigan, the project focuses on retaining both the visual quality of the lake's infinite expanse and the physical qualities of the bluff, shoreline and water for recreational use and relaxation.

The additions made include an expansion of roughly 2000 sq.ft. in the direction of the lake from the existing 5000 sq.ft. house and an attached 2500 sq.ft. subterranean lakefront natatorium, taking advantage of the bluff and Infinity edge condition at site level. A 2500 sq.ft. dependent guest house, play house and existing 1500 sq.ft.pool protect the site's cloistered gardens.

Aesthetic for the new work draws from existing minimalist geometries,   overlapping solids, intersecting planes, and angular derivations from a typically orthogonal plan. Rooftop gardens and patio help extend the already limitless visual freedom.

Muted material selection, such as stucco and cement allow a more powerful prismatic development of the intersecting volumes and voids throughout embracing a suggested tropical environment.

To experience a simple building is to be reminded of the nature of a site, it's vistas and impact on the overall design aesthetic, not to enhance the building as an object but to emphasize the energy inherent in the place.
